PASTOR DARIUS CURTIS
Darius Thomas Curtis accepted the call to Christian Ministry at age 16 and was licensed to preach at the Saint Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church (Chicago, IL) under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Albert D. Tyson, III. He was ordained for Itinerate Christian Ministry at the 121st Session of the Chicago Annual Conference in October 2003 by Bishop Phillip R. Cousin. Rev. Curtis considers it an honor to be called and graced of God to serve God’s people.
Rev. Darius is an avid learner and believes that one should never stop learning. His formal education includes Wilberforce University (Ohio), Yale Divinity School (Connecticut), and the School of Theology at Virginia Union (Virginia).
For nearly 12 years, Rev. Darius served at The Greater Allen AME Cathedral of New York. Under the close tutelage of the Reverends Doctors Floyd and Elaine Flake, he grew as a preacher, teacher, organizer, administrator, and servant leader. Pastors Flake entrusted him to serve in various capacities at Allen Cathedral. These included Executive Minister to Youth and Minister of Discipleship & New Member Assimilation. Some of his duties included oversight and training of ministry aspirants, development, revision & implementation of the discipleship and new members' curriculum, teaching weekly church-wide bible study, planning and oversight of an annual conference/retreat, and weekly pulpit pastor to name a few.
In October 2014, Bishop John Richard Bryant appointed Rev. Darius to serve Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Joliet. Under Rev. Darius' leadership, Brown Chapel strives to actualize its mission statement of being a Christ-centered, multi-generational church, committed to serving God by serving God’s people. Thus far, the church liquidated its mortgage 13 years early, implemented several outreach programs, started new ministries, includes youth and young adults in every aspect of the worship service, and strives to be a local church with a global impact!
Pastor Darius, as he is affectionately known by the members of Brown Chapel and throughout the community, believes the Church must remain true to the Biblical mandates established by Jesus. Additionally, the Church must commit to communal, civic, political, and social activity & responsibility. Thusly, Pastor Darius believes he is called of God to operate in the 5-fold ministry with simplicity, integrity and sincerity.
Darius Thomas Curtis isn't just a man after GOD'S heart but is a devoted father. He is the very proud dad of Darius Thomas, Jr. and Kaleb Lamont.
